Food, Fun and Two Seconds of Fame

Ok I know I’ve disappeared for over a month. I thought it was time to make a comeback when someone emailed to ask if I was still alive.

Yes. Still alive. Very much so. Evidently.

The past month has just been packed with all sorts of shenanigans from planning surprise birthday parties, getting “kidnapped” in a van, overdosing on ‘teh tarik’ (a special Malaysian tea), trying to win jabbing battles (don’t ask, just don’t), proving just how small the world actually is (story to come) and a whole lot more that I don’t want to bore you with. I even managed to slot in so many lunch appointments that I barely had enough time to suck in my stomach and squeeze into my jeans for the next one. I can kiss my “toned abs” goodbye and say hello to a tummy but it was worth it.

I’ve also discovered how to make the world’s best french toast and ate it every single day. I say “world’s best” but it’s really a cheat recipe I made that is SO easy not even a dummy can get it wrong. If there’s anything you should eat in this lifetime, it’s french toast with condensed milk.

Seriously. Make it now.

French Toast with Condensed Milk

All you need:
2 slices of bread
1 large egg
Some icing sugar (about 1 tbsp or so)
Some milk (about 1 tbsp or so)

  1. Beat egg, icing sugar and milk together (I never used proper measurements). Dip the bread in it quickly but don’t leave it in the mixture or the bread will become very soggy.
  2. Put a knob of butter into a heated pan. Place bread in pan and fry on both sides until browned.
  3. Drizzle with condensed milk – and that’s it! It literally takes 5 minutes.

I say “drizzle” but this is really how you want to eat it.

YUM! It’s my guilty pleasure. Yes, you may now gasp in horror at the monstrous amount of calories I recklessly consume.

Speaking of shenanigans, and as a wrap up to the month of May, guess who appeared in the local paper yesterday?

Press & Journal

Who would’ve thought!

The real story is the two women in the background who spent hours cooking the most amazing food. They were a HUGE success and couldn’t have done any better. All their food sold out early! You can cook more of their authentic Malaysian food by visiting and And they’ll be back bigger and stronger at the next International Fun Day & Mela.

I’ve also made food from and But that will have to come later because I am only one woman and can only do so much.Visit their blogs for recipes anyway because you won’t regret it.

Just doing my bit to spread the love for food and all things sweet and savoury *grin*.

On a final note, I want to say a quick thank you to the people who have still dropped by and left a lovely word or two despite my little disappearance act. It was such a nice surprise even though I haven’t been blogging for some time. I also really appreciate the kind emails that come through to let me know you enjoy reading specific “articles” (you really are too kind – I call it mindless rambling). Some of you also got in touch to update me on your prom preparations and masquerade masks (I have no idea how you managed to find me in the first place!), which was lovely because it’s always fun to be involved with these events. I must apologize for the huge delay in replying to your messages, I was not intentionally doing so.

Have a most wonderful week ahead!

To you mischievous ones, try not to get into too much trouble *wink*.

  1. That must be your mom in the background. She’s so happy that her puffs were a big sold out and other other food as well. She’s amazing! So you too take after her …. for the love of condense milk!

  2. hahhaa…I saw Mary on FB, so busy preparing food. Congratulations on the huge success!!

  3. It’s good to know you can go missing for a month and we still care and want to see you around. I have been missing here and there, a lot from my bento blog, but there is always summer. Nice photo in the paper! Congrats to you all. I haven’t seen Mary around either, but that could be me not blogging as much! :D

  4. Ooooh, Jabbing battles? Sounds like fun, what are those? I think you need to explain :-D. My gosh woman, that is one sexy plate of French Toast! I’m gonna make these, take 100 pictures, and only send you 6 pictures :-P. Um, your “being kidnapped in a van” comment might cause a lot of trouble for you. You may have to explain that one at least 10 times (depending on how many ppl ask). And just to make sure you reply to my comment, did you make that cake? It looks so professional. I asked a question, now you have to reply :-P. “Never in a million years” would you not reply to a question in your comments right? Great to see you back posting :-DDDDDD
