How To Tie Or Wear A Scarf

Posted on Mar 19, 2011 in Not a fashionista, but I try! | 30 comments

Firstly, I am terribly sorry for having not blogged for what feels like a million years and leaving you in the lurch! Don’t have any good excuse here – life just got the better of me! But trust me, I missed you lots.

I decided it’s time I wrote a post because I’ve left for far too long. Even if it means I will have about 4 hours of sleep tonight because I need to be up at 5.30 a.m tomorrow (yes, on a Saturday!). Hope you feel the love here *grin*. I know I have MANY of your posts to catch up reading on. Just give me some time and I promise to get round to it!

Today I thought I’d share some ways of tying a scarf. Coming from a very warm tropical country all year round, I never had to wear one. So when I moved to oh-so-lovely-cloudy-cold-and-grey Scotland, I hadn’t the slightest clue how to wear a scarf! I normally just wore it as a loop or a turtle neck. Boring right? Until someone showed me how to tie it in, what I call, a Braid. Just looks more interesting than the typical ways of wearing a scarf!

The Braid

It looks great on guys too!

When they get it right *chuckles*.

The Braid Gone Wrong

I was going to post step-by-step pictures for this, when a lovely friend sent me a link to a video which was much better! In the video, it’s called the Criss Cross. I had never seen it before but it is a fantastic video – you simply MUST watch it. This is thanks to the very lovely LeQuan from Check out all her food recipes – they’re delicious! Plus she’s such a wonderful person you’ll just miss out if you don’t get to know her!

Here’s the video:

I couldn’t wait to try out the different ways of tying a scarf! I went for ‘The Knot’ first and I love how scarves are such a great way of accessorizing.

The Knot

Not only does it keep you warm (especially when it’s always cold) but it looks great too!

I also found a photo I saved from some time ago and I can’t remember where to get it from so I’m afraid I can’t provide a link. If you know where it’s from please let me know.

28 Ways To Tie A Scarf

If, like me, you don’t know much about different ways of wearing a scarf, I hope you have fun playing around with these different ways! A scarf seems to make any simple outfit just that little more interesting!

Have a great weekend! And I’ll be back to catch up on your posts very soon.

  1. Yay, you’re back!!! Well hello hello deary. Definitely no worries about being MIA, real life needs to take precedence. You shouldn’t even be apologizing, silly girl. But as terribly sorry as you are, I’m sure your readers (me included of course) have missed you just as terribly :-).
Alright, as a friend, GOOD HEAVENS gurl, get some sleep! As a mother, I really disapprove of your 4 hours of sleep Missy. And as a hypocrite (teehee), been there, still doing that, and it sux! Don’t ever do it again! What were you think?! You should know better because you’re smarter than me. Do as I say, not as I do. Ok I’m done yelling at you now, time to suck up :-D

Awww…you sweet girl, thank you for linking back to my bloggie. You really didn’t have to, but it was really nice of you. And thank you for your kind words, but wonderful friendships are not a one way relationship, it takes two ;-).

You are styling that scarf girlie, looking great as always! Lol on “when they get it right”. Till this day I’m still tying hubby’s ties for him, so your male model didn’t do too bad. Mine may have strangled himself, so props to Mr. male model ;-). Thanks for sharing the video and scarf photo with us.

Good luck today! Just be yourself and you’ll rock it :-D. Big hugs! Have fun!

I’m in a very warm tropical weather all year round (Florida) with only 2 months of “winter” (winter for us is 60 degrees while that’s warm in other places up north I’ve learned ha) so it’s a shame I can’t really wear this around, though I’m willing to try because I really do enjoy scarfs and knots and braids. thanks for sharing Sharon!

Oh, that’s Michelle Phan and her friend! I love their videos. Your scarf is such a gorgeous blue. Haha me, too, when I first came to the UK, I just looped my scarf around my neck.

I’ve replied your comment on my blog, but thought I’d do it here, too, just in case…
Omg, I know what you mean! When I first went to a theatre in London (to watch Wicked), I was worried because all I had was a simple summer dress. I thought I’d be really underdressed, but when I arrived, I saw people wearing tshirts and ratty jeans and sneakers -_-”
I also realized that the older generation dressed better though, which I totally respect because I think going to the theatres is such a treat :D
